Koppe’s Mum Makes Lunch

That’s the name of the new EUR 39 star at SKYKITCHEN. Now, more than ever, if it says Koppe on it you know there’s Koppe in it. Every Sunday from 11.00 am to 3.00 pm, Edeltraud Koppe, mother of Alexander Koppe, Berlin’s youngest award-winning chef, cooks up and dishes out good honest Berlin-style home cooking garnished with real-life experience. Besides buffet specialities like the meat platter from Landhof Rahlf, fish from the Baltic coast or Bavarian Allgäu cheese, the list of fantastic classics also includes vanilla rice pudding, homemade Quarkbällchen (fried donut holes) with vanilla sauce, and rhubarb with raspberry. For the main course, there’s hearty seasonal fare fresh from the kitchen. Our Sunday SKYKITCHEN chef serves up your choice of Königsberger Klopse (meatballs in a white sauce) with capers, mashed potatoes and red beet, as well as veal tenderloin with asparagus and young potatoes or Peenestrom Zander (pike-perch) with braised cucumbers and coarse grain mustard. Vegetarian palates will delight at a dish of pearl barley with Leipziger Allerlei (mixed vegetables). This cornucopia of local dishes is a veritable feast for the eyes – and it’s all you can eat! If you have a hard time waking up in the morning, then let us entice you with prosecco, coffee and tea specialities, or a keg soda on tap.

Mother’s standard lunchtime question is our motto. Edeltraud Koppe, the mother of Alexander Koppe, is a native of Mecklenburg and not a professional cook. In fact, her professional career spanned positions in the finance ministry and in real estate management. But with the support of the kitchen brigade, she now puts together the Sunday lunch menu with good honest down-home cooking at Skykitchen. Mother Koppe’s secret weapons are her household experience and the Koppe family spirit, all of which helps to round out this revolutionary, down-to-earth restaurant concept.

High-spirited, broad-minded and always ready for some mischief in the mixing glass – that’s Fabian Buhtz, bar manager and the creative force behind the Classy Classics and Berlin Style Drinks. Without any inhibition, he presents his freaky mixologist cocktails in the spotlight of the German capital. With daring creations of his own design, tried-and-true classic cocktails and the personal touch, he has been the heart and soul of Skybar since 2015. Previously he tended the bar at the likes of Waldorf Astoria Berlin and even sailed the seas aboard Hapag-Lloyd’s MS Columbus as Sea Chef.
